Hi, my name is Alethea.

A young woman with long black hair, wearing a black and white houndstooth patterned top, smiling at the camera against a light gray background.
A young woman with long dark hair wearing a brown sweater and a black top, sitting at a desk with art supplies, writing or drawing on large sheets of paper with colored markers. There is a glass of water on the desk, and a smartphone nearby. In the background, there is a wooden bookshelf and other household items.

I’ve never been a makeup girl — ironic, considering the amount of makeup sitting in our studio. I never set out to become a makeup artist. I grew up happily barefaced; makeup was something I did only when I wanted to, not something I relied on.

But I was always decent at it. On days I wanted to look put together, I knew how to use the items in my minimalist collection, and sometimes I even did makeup for friends or taught them how to.

Being a colour analyst gave me an intuitive advantage and through my work, I’ve applied makeup on countless faces — not because I called myself an MUA, but simply because people trusted me. Even today, a bare face is still my default most days.

My journey with makeup started at code.d when I realised how few classes actually teach true beginners. Knowing the “best technique” doesn’t always mean it’s the best method for someone’s lifestyle or habits.

About a year and a half later, watching Just Makeup reframed how I saw the craft. Makeup wasn’t just makeup anymore — it became art, design, and architecture on the human face. Much like colour analysis, it isn’t particularly compelling in isolation, but in how it is understood and applied.

Today, I’m excited to keep learning from artists all over the world, continue painting and designing faces, and teaching people how to understand their own.
